How to Create a Course App
A course app lets you teach with structured modules and lessons, and track student progress. Customers get access to a course after they buy or claim a product it is attached to.
This guide shows you how to create a course app, configure its settings, build modules and lessons, choose a layout, and give customers access.
Before you start
You need:
A Zemers account with an active subscription
A store handle
A name for your course
A short headline that describes it
Your lessons planned, ideally grouped into modules
Step 1: Open the Apps page and choose Course
From your Zemers dashboard, go to: Apps
Click: New App
When asked what type of app to create, choose: Course
A course app gives you modules, lessons, and student progress tracking. This opens the app creation wizard.
Step 2: Add your app content
The first step is Content, where you set how your course looks and what it is called.
App thumbnail and media
Add a thumbnail image, and optionally a video link, for the top of your course page. This is optional but recommended.
App identity
Complete the following fields:
App name: the name of your course (up to 30 characters)
App slug: the URL for your course page, auto-generated from the name but editable
App headline: a short tagline (up to 60 characters)
Description: a short explanation of what students will learn (optional)
Your course page link will look like:
www.zemers.com/@yourhandle/a/your-course-slug
When you are done, click Next.
Step 3: Configure settings
The Settings step controls how your course behaves and who can see it.
Basic settings
Default content order: how content is sorted on the app page
Language: the language of your content
Categories
Choose 1 to 2 categories that best describe your course. This is required.
Visibility
Choose who can see the app:
Everyone: anyone can open the course app page (lessons can still be locked)
Members only: only you and customers with access can open it
No one: the app page is disabled while you work on it
Linked products
Optionally link this course app to one or more products. Customers who buy a linked product get access to the course. You can also attach the app to products later.
Click Next.
Step 4: Build modules and lessons
The Course Content step is where you create the structure of your course.
Add a module
Modules group related lessons. Click Add module and give it a title.
For each module you can set:
Unlock after days: drip the module a set number of days after a customer gets access. Leave it at zero to unlock immediately.
Default expanded: whether the module's lessons start open in the structured layout
Add lessons
Inside a module, click Add lesson and complete:
Title: the lesson title
Lesson link: the URL slug, auto-generated from the title (unique per course)
Content sections: build the lesson from Text, Image, Video, Carousel, Divider, and Created by sections, the same way you build a post or product page
Visibility: Public (anyone) or Members only (customers with access)
Unlock after days: overrides the module setting for this specific lesson
You can reorder modules and lessons, and move a lesson into another module, at any time.
Sequential progress
Optionally enable sequential progress so students must complete lessons in order before moving on.
When your structure is ready, click Next.
Step 5: Choose your course layout
The Layout step controls how your course is presented on the app page. Choose one:
Structured: a hero plus a module accordion list. Best for sequenced or bundled courses.
Compact: a flat lesson list with minimal copy. Good for shorter courses.
Showcase: a large hero plus a long description. Best for premium or visual courses.
You can change the layout anytime later.
Click Finish to create your course app.
Step 6: Give customers access
After the app is created, you land in the Manage App view, where you can keep adding modules and lessons.
A course is almost always members-only content, so customers reach it through a product:
Open the product you want to sell, go to Apps & Access, and add this course app under Included Apps.
When a customer buys or claims that product, they automatically get access to the course.
How unlocking works
Module unlock: all lessons in a module unlock after the set number of days from purchase
Lesson unlock: a lesson can override its module and unlock on its own schedule
Customers see locked lessons by title, but cannot open time-locked content until it unlocks
Publishing checklist
Before selling your course, make sure:
App name and headline are clear
At least one category is selected
Visibility is set correctly
Modules and lessons are in the right order
Lesson visibility and unlock timing are correct
The course app is attached to a product under Included Apps
What if something is not working?
Customers cannot open the course
Confirm the course app is attached to the product they purchased, under Included Apps.
A lesson is locked when it should be open
Check the Unlock after days setting on both the module and the lesson. The lesson setting overrides the module.
Lessons are in the wrong order
Reorder modules and lessons in the Course Content view. You can also move a lesson into a different module.
